Dominique Fontaine, BSN, RN, HNB-BC, HWNC, is a double board-certified holistic nurse and health and wellness nurse coach, a medical cannabis patient, a cannabis wellness advocate, and the founder and CEO of Sage Integrative Wellness LLC.Jointly Wellness Leader: Dominique Fontaine At Sage Integrative Wellness LLC, Nurse Dominique offers nurse coaching to help clients transform their lives and achieve their wellness goals. She employs a variety of holistic protocols including cannabis-based medicine. Nurse coaching is a “skilled, purposeful, results-oriented and structured client interaction that is provided by Registered Nurses.” As Nurse Dominique explains on her website, “An Integrative Nurse Coach supports clients as integral whole beings, respecting and honoring each individual’s unique experience, culture and beliefs, and path.” Nurse Dominique has a clinical background in “neuroscience, post-surgical/integrative health and wellness, and progressive step-down cardiac units, trauma, and critical care.” She specializes in psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology. Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology refers to the study of the interactions between the “psyche, neural and endocrine functions and immune responses.” The premise of this field of study is that the nervous system, the endocrine system and the immune system interact to maintain a homeostatic balance, but when these systems become imbalanced, it results in “the onset of symptoms that characterize a pathogenic state.” Epigenetic factors and major stresses can alter the psychoneuroimmunoendocrine axis “resulting in the emergence of disease.” The aim of this field of study is to restore homeostasis to these systems, including the endocannabinoid system, to treat various pathologies and disorders. As a health and wellness nurse coach, Nurse Dominique provides people with personalized, holistic healing protocols to restore the balance between these systems. She employs cannabis medicine, clinical acupressure, Reiki, progressive muscle relaxation, cognitive behavioral therapy, meditation, holistic nutrition, and chakra balancing to help her clients restore homeostasis, introduce self-care, and support growth and healing. Nurse Dominique has also designed a series of workshops called "Sage Wellness Workshops" that help “women and neuro-diverse individuals blossom on an integrative path of self-healing with and without cannabis and CBD.” These wellness workshops reflect many of the holistic protocols used in Nurse Dominique’s private practice. In 2015, Nurse Dominique became a medical marijuana patient. She found that cannabis helped her foster healing in her life, and she began to use cannabis in a clinical setting. Nurse Dominique is “a cannabis prepared nurse and a board-certified credentialed Holistic Nurse and Health and Wellness Nurse Coach through the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC), and a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA), American Cannabis Nurses Association (ACNA), and the National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA).” She offers private nurse coaching and nurse consultations on how clients can incorporate cannabis and CBD into their lives. She nurse coaches clients on how to “improve their health and wellness with and without cannabis so they can lower stress, increase confidence in cannabis selection specific to them, and co-create a cannabis wellness plan with a holistic cannabis nurse coach that supports their endocannabinoid system while integrating their traditional health care needs to enhance quality of life.”Jointly Wellness Leader: Dominique Fontaine In Nurse Dominique’s private health and wellness nurse coach practice, she has helped clients decrease their inflammatory response through holistic protocols that lower stress, improve their sleep and energy levels, and create more balance and satisfaction in their lives and work. Furthermore, she works with her clients on nutrition and movement so that they can “live a lifestyle of sustainable primary prevention by supporting the body with gentle healing.” In addition to her extensive professional background in holistic nursing and integrative medicine, Nurse Dominique “has learned brain coping strategies, holistic brain and gut nutrition, brain movement exercises, cannabis research and benefits, and mind/body/spirit techniques from her personal traumatic brain injury journey.” As a Wellness Community Leader, Nurse Dominique hopes “to gain a healing environment for the cannabis community, to support cannabis seekers in safe access, and to provide stakeholders and cannabis patients with quality cannabis nurse coaching and education from a credible holistic cannabis nurse.” We thank Nurse Dominique for sharing her story with us and we are honored to be able to amplify her voice and help more people discover purposeful cannabis consumption.
